July can be a tough month for gardens if rain is scarce, but there’s still plenty you can plant now that won’t sulk in dry weather.
What works well:

Keep them happy:
Add grit if your soil is heavy — good drainage is key.
Mulch around plants to trap what moisture you do get.
Water deeply once or twice a week rather than little and often.
Snip off faded flowers to keep colours coming.
A few smart choices now and you’ll have a garden that keeps its colour, even when the hosepipe stays in the shed.
